Building a new home?

March 3rd, 2014

I. Michael Interior Design has experience designing new homes. We design the architecture and the interiors which allows us to have control of the many features that are incorporated into the home. Through experience here are just some things to pay attention to when designing a new home that are usually overlooked;

1. Which direction does your home face? Oh boy is this a big one! It is critical to place rooms and windows according to the way the sun will hit your home. Get it wrong and you will not be able to sit at the kitchen table to eat, your artwork will be destroyed, your privacy will be compromised, and more!

The sun can be your worst enemy!

2. Where are your air return grills? These things make some noise and you really want to be conscious of where they will be. The HVAC contractor will try to tell you where they will be placed but believe me, if you know a little you can relocate them to a more suitable location and make your life better!

3. There’s nothing like the feeling you have when you plan your home to death, then move in and start to hang artwork and suddenly realize that there is a thermostat control in the middle of the wall preventing anything from being hung there! Again, the HVAC contractor will try to tell you where they will be placed but believe me, if you know a little you can relocate them to a more suitable location and make your life better!

There’s much more. I. Michael Interior Design (www.imichaelinteriordesign.com) can help design your home from the outside to the inside so that moving in will not be full of unanticipated surprises.
